SERENDIPITOUS PROJECT
Heritage Necklace
Drawing inspiration from her tropical roots, Sydney Ziems creates statement jewelry reflecting her personal exploration into stories forgotten to capitalism and westernization.
Handcrafted in her Brooklyn studio, this 'Heritage' necklace features black enamel cowrie shells with 24k gold plated trim delicately linked together with ethically sourced 14k gold filled findings.
This necklace is an ode to founder Sydney Ziems' african heritage. In African legend, a love of cowrie shells shows that you could be family to an ocean spirit of wealth and earth. It also represents the Goddess of protection in the ocean. In Africa, and in the Americas, the cowrie symbolized destiny and prosperity. Also thought of as the mouth of Orisha.
